Firefighters rescue elderly man from sixth floor balcony

An elderly man with a health emergency had to be taken from his home on the sixth floor of a block of flats in Hotwells by firefighters using their aerial appliance.

Firefighters were called to the block on Jacobs Wells Road at 3.30am this morning (Tuesday, August 16), to help ambulance crews get the man down from the flat.

Two fire engines and the turntable ladder from Temple Fire Station were summoned, and after discussing with ambulance crews the best way to get the man down, a firefighter rescued him from the top of the ladder from the balcony of his flat.
