Firefighters remain at scene of huge Langar Airfield industrial estate fire on fourth day

Plant machinery is being used to help firefighters tackle the remnants of huge fire at the Langar Airfield industrial estate as they remain at the scene for a fourth day.

Pictures showed the aftermath of the incident and firefighters are now dampening down after tackling the blaze since Thursday, May 21.

Plumes of thick black smoke made up of 'unidentified' chemicals could been seen above the Nottinghamshire village and for miles around after the fire broke out.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service tweeted at 10.45am on Sunday May 24: "Crews continue to work tirelessly to extinguish the fire and have been assisted by plant machinery both this morning and all day yesterday to help put out the fire.

"Our firefighters are working hard to bring this incident to a close.

"We continue to ask local residents who live near Langar Airfield Industrial estate to keep doors and windows closed, if you have smoke in your garden or around your homes.

"Again we would like to thank you for your understanding and patience as we extinguish the fire."

At its peak, more than 90 firefighters from three fire services were on scene with 15 different engines as well as other units.

Crews from stations in Leicestershire and Derbyshire have been supporting Nottinghamshire firefighters in tackling the blaze.
