Firefighters raced to battle a Motherwell house fire last night

Brave firefighters raced to home in Motherwell last night to battle a house fire.

They were called to Corrie Drive at 7:56pm to help battle the blaze.

A video circulating on social media appears to show flames leaping from the windows of a house on the street.

Worried locals online described the blaze as 'horrendous'.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 7.56pm on Thursday, 5 November to reports of a fire within a semi-detached, two-storey house in Corrie Road, Motherwell.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised four fire engines to the scene."

Locals have responded fast, with a GoFundMe being set up to cover the costs of any damages due to the fire.

A fund raiser, set up by North Motherwell Community Group, has already raised over £1,000 after only being set up 12 hours ago.
