Officers from Police Scotland were also called at 2pm to Cathcart Road, in Glasgow, near to the First Bus depot.

Up to five firefighters were still at the scene over an hour later along with the charred remains of the vehicle.

There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the blaze is still unknown.

The road was closed while smoke was spotted billowing above rooftops.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are in attendance after a report of a van on fire in Cathcart Road.

"The initial call was at 2pm.

"We mobilised one appliance which is still in attendance."
