Firefighters pull two people from Barrhead fire

Fire crews rescued two people from a top-floor flat blaze this morning.

Flames ripped through a three-storey tenement block in Gertrude Place, Barrhead around 7.20am.

Firefighters pulled two people from the burning building and passed them to waiting paramedics. One casualty suffered smoke inhalation, while the other suffered a shoulder injury.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.24am on Tuesday, June 30 to reports of a fire within a flat on Gertrude Place, Barrhead.

"Three fire appliances and one height vehicle were mobilised to the scene, where crews extinguished a fire within a top-floor flat of a three-storey tenement building.

"Crews also used a thermal image camera to check for any fire spread, and ensured the area was safe.

"Two casualties - one suffering from light smoke inhalation and one with a suspected shoulder injury - were passed into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service.”
