Firefighters issue warning after Weston-super-Mare house severely damaged by fire

People have been warned to check their smoke alarms regularly after a Weston-super-Mare kitchen fire.

Firefighters were called to a property thought to be in Upper Church Road earlier this evening (April 17), near the BBQ Smokehouse restaurant.

A picture from the scene shows serious damage to a cooker hob and the floor of the kitchen.

The fire, which was started by cooking, did not cause any injuries, according to a post on Twitter by Weston-super-Mare Fire Station.

The station tweeted: "Please take care in the kitchen and check your smoke alarms regularly."
