Firefighters issue warning after high-rise flat kitchen fire

Firefighters have warned about the danger of leaving cooking unattended after a fire in the kitchen of a Bristol flat.

Multiple Avon Fire and Rescue Service crews attended the incident at just after noon today (Sunday, September 9, 2019) on the 12th floor at Carolina House in Dove Street, Stokes Croft.

They used a turntable ladder to deal with the fire, which involved no casualties and was brought swiftly under control.

A man aged in his 50s was able to exit the property safely.

Firefighters at the scene confirmed they asked residents on floor nine and above to move down the building as a safety precaution.

The cause of the fire was put down to accidental ignition.

Station manager Matt Osborne told Bristol Live: "We don't know the exact circumstances of how the fire began.

"I'd just like to remind members of the public that when they are cooking they pay due care and attention to what they are doing and not to leave cooking alone.

"Make sure you monitor it because if left alone for a period of time you could have a fire break out very quickly like we have had this afternoon in Dove Street."
