Firefighters issue warning about barbecues ahead of scorching weekend weather

Firefighters have issued a warning about barbecues ahead of hot weather tomorrow (June 13).

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) is reminding residents of the region to follow balcony safety advice following incidents where fires have spread from barbecues lit on balconies of flats and apartments.

The emergency service tweeted out a warning, telling people to never use a barbecue on a balcony 'under any circumstances' - and to 'never flick cigarette stubs off balconies'.

The tweet was followed by an image of firefighters working to extinguish flames on a balcony and the quip 'we don't want this to happen to you!'

Sunday promises to be a hot day, with the Met Office saying Manchester will feel 'very warm'

In a weather report, the Met Office says: "A dry start with plenty of sunny spells through the morning.

"Lengthy sunny spells continue through the afternoon with increasing cloud from the northwest overnight. Feeling very warm, locally hot. Maximum temperature 26 °C."

GMFRS tweeted: "It looks like it will be a nice one tomorrow Don't forget our balcony safety advice:

"Do not use barbecues on your balcony under any circumstances

"If you smoke make sure you stub cigarettes out and NEVER flick them off your balcony We don't want this to happen to you!"
