Firefighters free person 'trapped underneath forklift' after industrial incident in Bulwell

Firefighters freed a person who had become trapped underneath a forklift truck after reports of an 'industrial incident'.

Crews from Stockhill, Stapleford and Highfields stations worked to free the person - who was later taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

Responders used airbags to release the casualty, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

The incident was reported at the Blenheim industrial estate off Camberley Road, Bulwell, at around 1.30pm on Wednesday afternoon (October 16).

Emergency service responders could be seen at the Great Bear Distribution company in Freeston Drive.

The Health and Safety Executive told Nottinghamshire Live that the incident was referred to Nottingham City Council for investigation.

The council confirmed it was investigating the incident and was in the process of gathering evidence and working with the emergency services.

A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service added: “We received a call at 1.22pm on 16 October to a commercial address on Freeston Drive in Blenheim Industrial Estate, Bulwell.

"The caller reported that there had been a medical emergency. We sent our Hazardous Area Response Team, a paramedic in an ambulance car and a crewed ambulance.

"One patient has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.”

A Great Bear Distribution spokesman said: "We can confirm that an incident occurred on 16 October 2019, which unfortunately resulted in the injury of a Great Bear Distribution employee.

"The incident took place in the warehouse at our depot in Nottingham and the site was temporarily closed down whilst the emergency services were present.

"A full investigation is underway and the company is cooperating fully with the authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident."
