Firefighters deal with ship crane fire at Royal Portbury Dock

Fire crews from Temple dealt with a fire at Royal Portbury Dock.

The incident last night (March 28, 2020) involved several fire crews.

Temple Fire Station put out a tweet which said: "All appliances have been busy at Royal Portbury Docks helping multiple crews tackle a fire involving a ship loading crane."

The Bristol Port Company  identified the vessel as the Thalassini, a ship carrying grain for export. The Port said last night: "This evening whilst loading a ship, a piece of loading equipment caught fire.

"There were no casualties and the fire brigade have now closed the incident.

"We are most grateful as always to the professionalism and speed of the Avon Fire and Rescue Service and Svitzer tug crews."

Avon Fire and Rescue incident manager Russ Mitchell confirmed the fire was tackled by crews from Temple as well as Avonmouth, Pill and Portishead.

He said the ship was carrying barley, there were no casualties and ignition is thought to be accidental.

On-board firefighters and tug boats joined in a multi-agency approach to the incident, he added.
