Firefighters cut roof off car to free woman following horror crash

A woman was cut out of a car following a crash in Middleton on Friday evening.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene following the 6pm smash on Heywood Old Road.

Firefighters cut off the roof to a smashed up Kia to release a female passenger who was trapped inside.

She was conscious and breathing but suffered spinal injuries following the two-car crash, a Manchester Fire Service spokesman said.

Photos from the scene showed the mangled wreckage of the car being towed away.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We were called at 6.05pm to reports of a crash involving two cars.

"One woman was trapped in one of the vehicles. We worked with ambulance crews to make sure she was OK.

Police were called tot the scene (ASP)

"She had spinal injuries. We cut the roof off the car. She was taken to hospital. She was conscious and breathing.

"The road was closed.

"We have since left the scene."
