Firefighters currently at the scene of a blaze on Bull Island

Firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire in the sand dunes of Dollymount Strand.

The fearless crew of the Dublin Fire Brigade is working tirelessly to put out the flames as there is a red fire warning in place this Bank Holiday Weekend.

Water and gorse beaters are being used by firefighters from Kilbarrack and North Strand to extinguish the fire on Bull Island.

Earlier today Dublin Fire Brigade slammed those "refusing to listen" to warnings about grass fires.

Hard-pressed firefighters have been called to numerous grass fires all over the capital since Friday.

The Department of Agriculture issues a Red Forest Fire Warning last week, which remains in place until Monday.

DFB took to social media this afternoon urging people to heed the warnings and not light barbecues in open areas.

Tweeting pictures from the scene of one blaze, they said: "It seems not everyone is getting the message, or are refusing to listen.

"Luckily this barbecue didn't escalate in to a large grass/scrub fire.

"There is a RED FIRE WARNING in place. No barbecues in forested or open areas. The warning is in place until at least tomorrow."
