Firefighters saved a Mayfield unit block from destruction, though one apartment was extensively damaged, after a blaze broke out on Monday afternoon.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to Elizabeth Street just after midday, where a fire had broken out in the kitchen inside a unit that was part of a block of five dwellings.
No-one was home at the time of the incident, so no-one was injured.
It took four fire crews about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which is believed to have started in the kitchen.

The cause of the fire was not clear at the time of publication.
Newcastle boxer Joe Dryden was asleep out the back of his brother Jason's house, next door to the unit block, when the pair heard someone raise the alarm.
"I ran in and kicked the door open," Joe Dryden said, adding that the woman who lives in the unit was not home.
"I could see flames licking at the window and a computer on fire," another witness said.
Meanwhile, Jason Dryden said: "glass was broken at the front here, flames were licking outside that wall and the smoke was jet black".
