Firefighters called to 'significant' blaze involving Nottinghamshire woodland

Pictures show firefighters tackling a large fire in a Nottinghamshire woodland.

Crews battled the blaze for more than three hours on Thursday, April 22.

The fire broke out in the woods near West Drayton Avenue just outside of Elkesley, with firefighters from Tuxford, Worksop and Retford all attending the scene.

The fire involved a lot of the woodland and so took a while to be brought under control. Hose reels and a water bowser were used to dampen it down.

A spokesperson for Tuxford Fire Station said: "Crews this evening along with Retford Fire Station and the water bowser from Worksop Fire Station have been dealing with a woodland fire just of West Drayton Avenue near to Thaymar Ice Cream Parlour.

"This was quite a significant fire which involved a vast amount of woodland, grass and undergrowth.

"The crews worked extremely hard for over three hours to bring the fire under control and the incident to a close.

"They used hose reels, main jets and beaters to deal with this."
