Firefighters called to Newcastle city centre pub after building works set off fire alarm

Firefighters were called to a Newcastle city centre pub after building works caused a fire alarm to go off.

Percy Street was closed on Sunday morning after emergency services were called to the Three Bulls Heads following reports of a blaze.

But a spokeswoman for the Stonegate Group, which operates the pub, said work taking place had caused the building’s fire alarms to go off.

She said: “The Three Bulls Head pub is undergoing investment works.

"The contractors are currently onsite and experienced some issues with extraction, which prompted the fire service to visit the site.”

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service sent two appliances and an aerial platform to the incident.

A spokeswoman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Newcastle Central and Gosforth were in attendance at a blaze that was at a property on Eldon Gardens.

“Crews left the scene at around 11.10am.”
