Firefighters called to Leeds primary school after child sets fire to toilet roll

Firefighters were called to a primary school in Leeds after a fire broke out in the toilets.

Crews arrived at Bramley St Peter's Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary in Hough Lane, Bramley, at around 9.30am on Tuesday, July 7.

They were called after the small fire on the ground floor triggered the fire alarm.

Crews from fire stations in Stanningley, Leeds, Bradford and Rawdon used two hose reels and positive pressure ventilation to extinguish the fire and no one was injured.

A West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service crew commander from Stanningley fire station said: "We think it was a pupil setting fire to the toilet roll.

"There were no injuries. It (the fire) was small."

A Leeds City Council spokesman said: "Following the activation of an automatic fire alarm in the toilets of Bramley St Peter’s Primary School, West Yorkshire Fire Service were called.

"A small fire was discovered and subsequently extinguished.

"All staff and pupils have returned safely to the school and lessons have taken place as normal today.”
