Firefighters called to 'chemical spillage' in Bristol

Firefighters were called to a "chemical spillage" in Bristol today (July 15).

Patchway fire station said the crew attended with Avonmouth to "make the scene safe".

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue has since confirmed the incident "involved a quantity of fertiliser."

They said: "At 9.31am today, crews from Avonmouth and Patchway fire stations were called to reports of an incident on St Andrews Road in Avonmouth. On arrival, firefighters found the incident involved a quantity of fertiliser.

"Following a multi-agency meeting, the fertiliser was moved to a skip and covered sand and before firefighters used a 45mm jet to dampen down.

"Ambulance and police were in attendance."

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 9.35am about an incident on St Andrew’s Road in Avonmouth.

"We sent hazardous area response team paramedics to attend the incident. They treated and discharged five patients at the scene."

Later in the day, and pulled a man out of the water.
