Firefighters called to busy road after blaze starts in car

Firefighters called after car blaze breaks out on main road in Nottingham.

A picture from the scene shows flames and smoke surrounding a car parked in Mansfield Road, Sherwood.

Albert Abellana, who witnessed the incident, said: "I was walking on my way back home from the post office.

"It started out as a flicker under the boot of the car. I checked if there was someone inside I looked around and I saw a woman phoning fire services already. I backed off and waited till the firemen came through."

She said that just after 11am the fire had been put out and the car was being checked by firefighters.

A spokesperson at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Stockhill crews attended one car on fire after a call was put in at 10.40am.

"One hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus were used and the fire was out at 11.11am."

They added that nobody was injured during the incident and that the car has now been handed over to police.
