Firefighters called as bus catches fire near busy York Road in Leeds

Firefighters were called to tackle a bus fire in Leeds on Thursday morning.

They were alerted after black smoke was seen billowing out of a First Bus double decker in Foundry Lane, near York Road, at 7.34am on June 27.

Two West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Killingbeck used hose reels to extinguish the blaze, before leaving the scene at around 8.10am.

No injuries have been reported.

One lane remains blocked on Foundry Lane, as the bus is yet to be removed, and this is causing minor delays.

A First Bus spokeswoman: "“We can confirm that the fire services attended a First Leeds vehicle this morning, which was out of service and carrying no passengers.”

It happened a week after another bus went up in flames on Leeds inner ring road, near Clay Pit Lane. Four crews were called to deal with that blaze and no one was injured.
