Firefighters battle village blaze in early hours of morning

Firefighters have tackled a blaze in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) in a South Lanarkshire village.

The fire began at around 1am in Thorntonhall and spread to cars and a house in the area.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the blaze. Eight fire engines were sent to the scene after the alarm was raised.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed there were no reports of any casualties following the incident.

Firefighters have extinguished the blaze but some remained at the scene at 7am this morning.
