Firefighters battle 'large' blaze as black smoke billows from business unit

Fire crews battled a "large fire" tonight- amid concerns the blaze may cause road closures.

Huge plumes of smoke were seen billowing into the sky in Bonnybridge, near Falkirk this evening, as the emergency services dealt with a business premises blaze.

And Police Scotland has now asked the public to stay away from the surrounding area - amid concerns they may need to close roads nearby the small village, which is close to Falkirk, Cumbernauld and Stirling.

There are no reports of any injuries.

A force spokesperson said: "About 5.20pm on Wednesday February, 6, 2020, emergency services attended to a report of a fire at a business premises on Hillview Road, Bonnybridge.

"Local officers remain in attendance to support the Scottish Fire and Rescue service.

"There are no reports of any injuries and we would ask people not to attend in the area."

Locals took to Twitter to post pictures of the smoke plumes in the sky.

And Falkirk Police said on the platform: "We are currently supporting @fire_scot at a large fire at a business premises in #Bonnybridge.

"We may need to implement road closures. Please stay away from the area. "
