Firefighters battle huge blaze at go-kart track in Bradford

A huge fire broke out at a go-kart track in Bradford this morning.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent 15 fire engines to the scene.

Crews raced down to Upper Castle Street following reports of a blaze involving numerous scrap tyres, Yorkshire Live reports.

All trains to and from Bradford Interchange have been cancelled as the blaze is 50m from the railway.

The fire and rescue service urged people not to travel within the area.

Residents have also been asked to keep windows closed due to the smoke.

In a statement, the fire service said: “We've now got 15 Fire Engines & 2 aerial appliances tackling the large fire in the Bradford area.

"Due to the large amount of smoke, we're advising all residents to the East of the incident – East Bowling – to keep windows & doors shut.

"Please avoid travelling through this area.”

Train operator Northern tweeted about the blaze, saying: "A large fire at a Go-Kart Track next to the railway at Bradford Interchange is on fire.

"Around 8,000 tyres and railway equipment are at risk from the fire which is around 50m from the railway.

"No trains can run at present. RIO is on site and liaising with emergency services."
