Firefighters at Nottingham flats after 'serious incident'

Emergency services were called this evening (Monday) following a "serious" blaze in a Nottingham block of flats.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were at the "serious incident" in Angell Green, Clifton, following a call at 8.05pm.

The fire was out at around 10pm.

In a statement, they said: "The fire is out but this is an ongoing incident which has been handed over to police for a joint fire investigation.

"Residents were evacuated due to the nature of the incident but some are now able to go back in.

"The road is open."

Earlier, firefighters from London Road, Highfields and West Bridgford were working alongside Nottinghamshire police.

A spokesperson at Nottinghamshire Police said earlier: "Police have been called to a report of a serious flat fire in Clifton.

"Officers remain at the scene with colleagues from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service following the report of the blaze in the top floor of the flats in Angell Green at around 8.05pm today."

The fire service could not confirm if there were any injuries.
