Firefighters and police called after flat fire breaks out in Salford

Police and firefighters were called to a quiet Salford street after a fire started late at night in a block of flats.

Residents living in Martin Road, Clifton, spotted three fire engines arriving in the street at around 11pm last night (Sunday).

The blaze had broken out in a porch at the rear of one of the ground floor flats but caused smoke to partially fill the block.

Fortunately, firefighters were able to bring the flames under control and stop the blaze from spreading any further.

No serious injuries were reported.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Shortly before 11pm on Sunday, August 2, three fire engines from Agecroft and Farnworth fire stations were called to reports of a fire involving the rear outhouse of a ground-floor flat on Martin Road, Swinton.

“Crews arrived quickly and extinguished the fire using one hose reel, one positive pressure ventilation fan, a thermal imaging camera and lighting.

"Three people suffering the effects of smoke inhalation were treated by firefighters. Crews were on scene for around an hour and a half.”

Emergency crews left the scene at around 1am this morning after the flames had been brought under control.

The fire is not believed to have been started deliberately.
