Firefighter takes to stage for moment in spotlight at King's Theatre

A firefighter was captured seizing his moment in the spotlight at the Kings Theatre at the weekend.

The fire service were attending the venue due to a false fire alarm while rehearsals for L'Elisir D'Amore were being held – and one guy could not resist a chance at stage stardom.

Scottish Opera shared a video of the firefighter throwing up his arms and shouting "I've always wanted to be on stage". He then gazes in wonder around the auditorium before breaking out into a short dance and exiting stage-right.

The organisation posted the clip and said: "We had a (false) fire alarm during L'elisir d'amore rehearsals at the weekend...Turns out that spotlight is hard to resist. Thanks for keeping us safe (and keeping your sense of humour)."

Scottish Fire and Rescue shared the post, adding: "We're usually quickly on scene - not in the scene! Glad we could make sure the building was safe and hope everyone got back to rehearsals quickly."

Viewers described the video as "wholesome" and called him a "legend" – while one follower suggested the Scottish Opera give the showman free tickets.

We didn't get much of a chance to hear the guy sing... But after a long year of lockdown, we'd probably pay to see the full performance.
