Firefighter rushed to hospital after truck crashes into ditch

A firefighter has been rushed to hospital after a fire truck he was travelling in crashed into a ditch in Co Meath last night.

The incident happened at Hawkinstown in Duleek, Co Meath, at around 7:15pm on Monday evening.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the single-vehicle crash.

The man, who is in his 40s and a member of Meath Fire Service, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda to be treated for his injuries.

The road was temporarily closed last night but has since reopened.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí attended a single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at Hawkinstown, Duleek, Co. Meath at approximately 7:15pm last night, Monday 28th February 2022.

"A male in his 40s, and sole occupant of the vehicle was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda to be treated for his injuries."
