Firefighter gave toddler kiss of life and rushed him to hospital in his fire engine

An on-call firefighter saved the life of a two-year-old boy after he stopped breathing - and then got his colleagues to rush him to hospital in their fire engine.

Little Logan Bees from Llwynypia in Rhondda Cynon Taf had popped down the steep hill outside his house to visit neighbour Christopher Lock at around 7pm on Saturday, June 12.

But he ended up falling and cracking his head on the pavement, causing him to have a seizure and stop breathing.

Luckily, quick-thinking Christopher - who's also a corporal in the Royal Logistics Corps, based at Maindy barracks in Cardiff - saw what was going on and darted over, using his CPR knowledge to give Logan the kiss of life.

"It all happened so quick," said the toddler's dad, Nathan, a 31-year-old factory worker.

"Logan had gone to have a nose at what Chris was up to in his garden - both our families get along really well and are in and out of each other's houses all the time.

"On the way though he slipped and fell and me and my wife Gemma could see he was in trouble.

"But, before we could do anything, Chris was there giving him mouth to mouth, which brought him back to life.

"Then, after we got told there'd be a two-hour wait for an ambulance, Chris called his mates at the fire station in Tonypandy and they were on the scene in minutes to take Logan to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Pontyclun in their fire engine."

There, a consultant told Logan's worried parents that it was a viral infection which had possibly led to the seizure, and it was that which had then caused him to fall.

However, Logan was given the all clear a few days later and discharged (Monday, June 14).

"Chris keeps telling us he was just doing his job, but his actions went way beyond that," said Nathan.

"We honestly can't thank him enough for what he did. Me and Gemma felt totally powerless as it was all happening - we're so glad he was there."

Nathan added that the whole incident could easily have ended in tragedy.

"Chris had only just come back from a call out, which luckily had turned out to be a false alarm. Had it been a grass fire or something more serious then he wouldn't have been around at that crucial moment.

"And, had that been the case, I don't know if Logan would still be with us now."
