Firefighter found dead at station while working night shift in Wolverhampton

A firefighter was found dead while on duty in Wolverhampton.

Andrew Moore was working the night shift at the city's fire station with watch colleagues when he was dead on Sunday evening (February 16).

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) says the 50-year-old took his own life.

Mr Moore served as a firefighter over 25 years having joined West Midlands Fire Service in 1996 from the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Chief Fire Officer Phil Loach said: “Andrew’s death has come as a great shock to the entire service.

"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends and colleagues.

“One of our senior officers informed Andrew’s family of his death. We will continue to provide them with all the support they need at this very difficult time.”

Mr Moore's colleagues held a minute's silence in memory of the firefighter during a meeting at the WMFS headquarters this morning.

Councillor Greg Brackenridge, Chair of West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority (WMFRA), said: “Our thoughts are very much with Andrew’s family.

"I know that his death has affected many people, within and outside of the service.

"We will ensure that we do all we can for those who need support.”
