Firefighter decides to foster dog he found 'lifeless' under bed during raging fire

A firefighter has decided to foster a dog who he saved after finding her lying "lifeless" under a bed while responding to a fire.

Jamie Trew found Millie the Jack Russell during a fire on the ground floor of a flat in Newham on July 28.

Emergency services were called to the address around 9pm, where firefighters found a woman being treated by medics outside.

She told them her beloved dog was missing so the firefighters began searching for her.

Shortly after, the lifeless body of Millie was found under a bed and she was given oxygen and water.

After 10 minutes she regained consciousness, BBC reports.

The dog is now being looked after by Mr Trew while the owner recovers.

Station officer Dean Ivil said: "After 10 minutes she showed signs of life and she eventually regained consciousness enough to start walking and was taken to the local emergency vet.

"After a short stay there, her owner has agreed she can be fostered and she is now happily staying with leading firefighter Jamie Trew who found her.

"It's a lovely ending for what could have been a tragic story. If her owner decides it's best, Millie has a forever home with Jamie and his family," he added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, it left part of the bedroom where Millie was found damaged.

However, brave firefighters managed to get the blaze under control in 40 minutes.
