
Local residents divided into north and south teams fiercely battle during an annual Takeuchi (bamboo hitting) event held Friday night in front of Akita Suwagu shrine in Misato, Akita Prefecture. Armed with bamboo poles and helmets, the participants engaged in three rounds of battles to decide which was the winning team. It is believed that locals will enjoy a rich harvest during the year if the north side wins and rice prices will go up if the south side wins, which happened this year and the year before.
