Firebug torched Scots gun club after membership snub over firearms 'concerns'

A man set fire to a gun club HQ on Christmas Day after being refused membership over “concerns” about his interest in firearms.

Cameron Mills lit rubbish in a bin and pushed it against the door of Callander Target Sports Club in Perthshire, then hid in woods and watched as the flames took hold.

Mills, 24, later told police he wanted to “cause economic damage” and shut down the club.

When he was arrested, he ranted about its members, accusing them of holding “right-wing racist views”.

Stirling Sheriff Court heard firemen were called to the club at 6pm and found the club’s wheelie bin was on fire against the front door.

Parts of the building were alight but the fire service quickly put out the blaze.

CCTV showed Mills starting the fire and he was arrested at his home in Callander on January 3.

Mills pled guilty to wilful fireraising at the club.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson deferred sentence until April next year for a supplementary social inquiry report, information about the cost of damage, for an autistic spectrum disorder report on Mills to be concluded, and for Mills of be of good behaviour.
