Fireball on Scots motorway as bus bursts into flames on M90 with road closed by police

A bus has been engulfed in flames after catching fire on the busy M90 motorway in Perthshire.

Emergency services have been called to the northbound carriageway between Junction 9 Muirmont and Junction 10 Craigend, near Bridge of Earn.

The road has been closed by officers while fire crews tackle the fierce blaze which has reportedly sent flames shooting out in lane one.

A video from the scene shows the double-decker almost completely engulfed by the fire after it came to a stop on the hard shoulder.

It is not currently known whether anyone has been injured.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to reports of a vehicle fire at 6.42pm.

Police Scotland is asking motorists to divert off the motorway via Bridge of Earn.

They tweeted: “M90 Edinburgh to Perth motorway closed at Craigend interchange, (slip road to Perth prior to Friarton Bridge), due to a bus on fire.

“Emergency services on scene. Divert via Bridge of Earn to Perth. Thank you.”

A force spokesperson added: "Around 6.50pm on Saturday, 6 November, officers were called to a report of a bus on fire on the M90 northbound near junction 10.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the northbound carriageway is currently closed."
