Fireball METEOR soars 'just over trees' in unbelievable footage

Last week, residents in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, were in for a surprise after a huge fireball meteor blazed across the skies.

The space rock soared through the Lower Michigan sky on Saturday morning - and the whole incident was caught on camera by one lucky viewer on his dash cam.

Speaking to M Live, Cal Pawson explained: “I can tell you in person this was such an amazing experience to see first hand.

“So much bigger than it looks in the video. At first I thought it was a plane coming over the trees, but definitely traveling too fast for a plane.

'God of Chaos' asteroid to whizz by Earth - and you'll be able to see it with the naked eye

“By the time I realised what it was, it had fizzled out right over the road.”

Meteors sightings occur when when a space rock comes close enough to Earth and enters Earth’s atmosphere.

Once it reaches our atmosphere, the rock vaporises and burns up, producing a streak of light in the night sky.

Meteorite smashed into the MOON at 38,000 mph during lunar eclipse leaving 50ft crater

Because of their appearance, these streaks of light are often referred to as ‘shooting stars’, although they’re not actually stars at all!

If you’d like to see a meteor for yourself, thankfully there’s not long to wait before the next meteor shower.

The Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower will peak on the evening on July 28, during which time there’s expected to be as many as 20 meteors per hour!
