Fireball meteor seen blazing across UK skies

A fireball blazed across the night sky over the UK at the weekend, wowing onlookers.

There were more than 100 reported sightings of the meteor on Saturday evening at around 7pm.

The Mirror reported it was seen in the UK as well as in Europe.

The UK Meteor Network confirmed the sighting on twitter, saying: "The fireball... was a Sporadic type with an interesting orbit, in perihelion it's inside Mercury's orbit.

"Went down to 28km but no meteorite."

It was described a leaving a green and blue trail as it entered the Earth's atmosphere.

Twitter user @SydneyEggbert said: "Caught it on my Teslacam last night, driving North on the M6 near Birmingham."

In Wakefield, Yorkshire, the object was seen streaking across the sky, Yorkshire Live reports.

It mainly appeared to have been seen in north Wales and Scotland.

The sighting comes almost a year after a meteorite crashed into Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, on February 28, 2021 - landing in a family's driveway.
