Firearm and axe found in Edinburgh garden as worried resident calls police

A worried resident called police after finding an axe and a firearm in a communal back garden.

Police raced to the scene in Greendale Park, Edinburgh, earlier this afternoon after receiving the report.

They cordoned off the garden while they recovered the items.

However it’s understood the firearm is believed to be an imitation handgun.

A source said: “The gun and the axe were just lying in the garden.

"Obviously the person got worried and phoned the police who came down and removed them.

“They put up a cordon and officers sat outside for a while and asked some questions of people in the stair but nobody knows anything.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “I can confirm officers attended at Greendale Park in Edinburgh at 2pm today and recovered items from a garden."
