Fire tears through family home as they sleep upstairs

A family were startled awake by the sound of a fire ripping through their home in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Swallow Crescent in Maghull, shortly before 6am on April 14.

When crews arrived the family had managed to escape and were standing in the street outside.

Two fire engines attended and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

They remained at the scene for over two hours, leaving at 8.37am.

Photos taken today show the aftermath of the fire and the smoke damage caused to the house.
