Fire stretching 5 miles caught on video as it rages across Ayrshire countryside for 2 days

Firefighters have finally extinguished an Ayrshire forest blaze which burned for more than two days.

Emergency services fought to control the fire near Loch Doon, Dalmellington after it swept across an area of five miles.

Helicopters dropped water on the affected site as part of an ongoing effort to bring the fire under control after they were called out on Saturday evening.

The team worked in conjunction with the Forestry Commission and police to finally make the area safe this morning.

People living in the area were warned to keep windows and doors closed as a blaze raged and fortunately there were no injuries.

The extent of damage to the local environment and wildlife are not yet known.
