Fire-starters prey on old stables twice - and succeed in razing them to the ground

A cluster of ramshackle buildings have been burned to the ground by louts.

Police are now probing after firestarters struck at the site in Barrhead.

The old stables lie up a track behind houses in Boylestone Road.

They are disused and are on rough ground flanking Fereneze Golf Club.

One of the blazes was captured on camera and put on a private social media site.

The first incident was on Monday before it was again set on fire on Tuesday.

Barrhead Area Inspector Stevie Scott said officers attended on both occasions and have launched an enquiry.

Ins Scott said: “Scottish Fire and Rescue was also in attendance and confirmed to attending officers that on both occasions the fires were started deliberately.

“Police are currently continuing with their enquiries and anyone with any information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2926 of February 2.”

Barrhead’s fire brigade was alerted to the second incident at 9.01pm.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire.

“There were no reported casualties.

“Crews left after making the area safe.”
