Fire service tackle fire on Rhigos in Rhondda

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been called to a fire on the Rhigos mountain in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The fire was reported to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service at 5.28pm on Tuesday, with at least one crew in attendance at the scene. The fire, which can be seen from nearby houses, comes in a week where grass fires have repeatedly made headlines.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service currently has an ongoing social media campaign warning people about the danger of grass fires and encouraging people to be careful in order to prevent them.

More than 300 fire service staff in Wales are unable to go to work because they are self-isolating amid a lack of coronavirus testing.

This includes warning people against setting light to rubbish and discouraging the use of high-risk sky lanterns in celebrations.

The fire service has warned that grass fires pose a serious risk to the community at a time of increased pressure.

Other grass fires have recently occurred in Swansea, Tonyrefail, and Trebanog.
