Fire service statement after Nottingham blaze rips through roof and road reopens

Police kept a busy road closed for 24 hours after a fire ripped through the roof space of a property.

Meadow Lane had to be closed between Daleside roundabout and Lady Bay Bridge after the blaze broke out at the property at around 12pm on Thursday, May 27.

It has since fully reopened.

A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We put out the fire and left the scene by around 4.15pm (Thursday).

"No one was hurt. A joint fire and police investigation concluded the fire started in the roof space but we don’t yet have a cause.

"We then handed the scene over to the police."

The A6011 Meadow Lane southbound remained closed during Friday May 28 after building fire between Lady Bay Retail Park and Lady Bay Bridge.

The city council said it fully reopened at around 3.15pm.

Traffic from the Sneinton area had to use Trent Bridge to cross the river.

Seven fire crews were called to the scene and used an aerial ladder to pump water into the property and extinguish the fire.

The flat, which is located above Dee's Flavour takeaway, had its roof taken off by the force of the fire.
