Fire service statement after crew called to Nottingham city centre

Firefighters have issued a statement over why a crew was called to an incident in Nottingham city centre. Witnesses reported seeing a fire engine in Wheeler Gate, off Old Market Square, on Friday afternoon (June 10).

Witnesses heard an alarm and reported seeing firefighters "moving in and out" of a building. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters had been called to a "false alarm".

In a statement, the fire service said: "A crew from London Road fire station were called to Wheeler Gate today at 11.11am. Upon arrival, the crew investigated the property and determined it to be a false alarm."

A witness said earlier: "Fire brigade on Wheeler Gate, possible fire? No smoke or flames. Alarm going off. They are moving in and out the building." It is unclear which building had triggered the alarm.
