Fire service reveals how closing your bedroom door could save your life

Fire crews have revealed the one thing that you could do to help save your life in the event of a fire.

Dramatic pictures have been posted by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service which shows severe damage caused by a house fire in Bondgate, Castle Donington, on Sunday February 9.

Some of the photographs show a bedroom which was badly damaged by fire where the door had been left open, reports LeicestershireLive.

But one photograph shows a bedroom which has escaped relatively unscathed. The door to this room was kept closed.

The images were posted on the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Community Safety Facebook page.

The post said: “It's something we talk about a lot in the fire service, but it really could save your life.

“Here are some photos taken by Castle Donington station at a house fire they attended.

“The photos show the difference between which rooms had their doors closed and which did not.

“A closed door can help prevent the spread of fire and a working smoke alarm will give you precious time to react.

“Think before you go to bed tonight. Close your doors.”

Fire crews were called out at 1.05pm yesterday to the blaze on the first floor of a house in Castle Donington.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the flames in a bedroom.

The fire, which was caused by a faulty computer, caused 80 percent damage to a first floor bedroom.

There was smoke damage to the whole first floor.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Fire crews from Castle Donington and Long Eaton attended the blaze.
