Fire service release dramatic photos of Thornbury barn fire

Firefighters have this evening released dramatic images of a huge barn fire, which caused disruption this morning as crews worked to control the blaze.

Thornbury Fire Station posted four pictures of the blaze and subsequent emergency services effort to Twitter, revealing the extent of the devastating fire which gutted two large storage barns containing wood chippings.

There was some disruption to traffic early this morning as crews lay hoses across the road on Old Gloucester Road, Thornbury, in order to allow them to tackle the flames.

Avon Fire and Rescue released a full statement about the incident early today, which read: "Crews from Thornbury, Patchway, Southmead, Avonmouth, Kingswood, Temple and Portishead fire stations were called to a barn fire that was affecting six barns.

"On arrival, firefighters used two 45mm jets to extinguish the fire and managed to contain the fire to two barns used to store wood chippings.

"The cause is currently unknown."
