Fire service race to Edinburgh Asda to help 'dog trapped in car'

A fire engine was dispatched to Asda at the Jewel at around midday on July 17 after a panicked owner mistakenly trapped their dog in the car, during one of the hottest days of the year so far.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the owner had required assistance after they accidentally left their keys in the car and couldn’t get back in.

They told Edinburgh Live that the engine of the car was still running when the firefighters arrived and that a window had to be smashed to retrieve the dog and the keys.

An eyewitness said: “It was right outside the front door of Asda.

“They’d smashed the driver's side window and a fire engine was there and lots of firemen.

“One was sweeping up the glass.

“A couple of people were looking on. Something was going on, there was definitely a commotion.”
