Crews from Bedminster Fire Station were called to Novers Road at 5.23pm on April 19 to reports a fire had broken out in the utility room of a two-storey terraced house.

Two sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one jet and a CO2 extinguisher were used in order to tame the blaze, with a positive pressure ventilation fan used to clear the property of smoke.

A spokesperson said: "Unless an appliance is specifically designed to be left switched on - such as a fridge or freezer - ensure all appliances are switched off before leaving the house or going to bed.

"Ensure that all appliances have a British or European safety mark.

"Also, make sure that electrical sockets and extension leads are not over-loaded.

"Smoke alarms give you and your family early warning that you may have a fire and give you vital seconds to leave the property."
