Fire service issue warning after two people hospitalised in M1 crash

The fire service has issued safety advise after two people were taken to hospital following a serious crash on the M1.

Traffic on the M1 between junction 22 and 23 in the southbound direction came to a stand-still from around 9pm on Sunday, January 26 after two vehicles crashed.

The emergency services closed the road for around two hours until 11pm while two people were cut from their vehicles and taken to hospital.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Castle Donington Station, shared the pictures of the aftermath of the crash and issued safety advice for motorists.

The service said: "We attended a road traffic collision this evening on the M1.

"Two people had to be extracted by fire service and were taken to hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Please make sure you regularly check your tyres for damage, pressure and tread depth."

At around 10.59pm on Sunday, Leicestershire Police added: "The motorway southbound between Junction 22 and 23 has now reopened.

"Traffic is slow but moving again. Thank you for your patience."
