Fire service issue update on huge blaze seen for miles over Leeds

More details have emerged following a fire near Leeds yesterday (Sunday) which saw people advised to keep their doors and windows closed.

Thick black smoke billowed into the skies above Garforth shortly after midday and West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service have now revealed what happened.

A spokesperson for the force said that four crews rushed to Newhold Industrial Estate on Newhold, Garforth, where they found a blaze inside an industrial unit containing "a large volume of paint and cylinders".

A shipping container was also caught up in the fire, which ripped through the 20 metre unit.
