Firefighters remain at the scene of a huge fire which broke out near a scrapyard.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene of a fire near a scrapyard on Percival Lane in Runcorn at around 1.30pm on Thursday, where wooden and plastic pallets had caught fire. The resulting inferno covered an area around 60 square metres, and r esidents were asked to close their doors and windows while smoke plumes filled the air .
Smoke was visible from Frodsham and ambulance and police attended the scene. The fire service used several special appliances including an aerial ladder platform, the Scorpion high reach extending turret and a high volume pump, to tackle the blaze.

According to a witness, nobody was hurt, but businesses were evacuated by the fire service as the blaze spread to an adjoining building. At the height of the blaze, more than 50 firefighters tackled the flames.
In an update at 9am today, the fire rescue service said firefighters were still in attendance at this incident and were dampening down the area. They are also using a digger to turn over minerals to expose hot spots of fire.
A spokesperson said for Cheshire Fire and Rescue: "Firefighters are still in attendance at this incident and are using a hose reel and ground monitors to damp the area down. They are using an onsite digger to turn over materials an expose hot spots of fire. Fire engines from Birchwood and Knutsford are still at the scene."
Traffic management system Inrix also said Percival Lane is closed in both directions due to the serious fire at the scrapyard from Runcorn Docks Road to Brindley Street.
