Fire service confirms cause behind huge industrial blaze in Nottingham

Firefighters who have spent days tackling a huge industrial blaze in Nottingham believe it was started accidentally.

Almost 100 firefighters were called to the large-scale incident in Harrimans Lane, in the Dunkirk area, on Thursday afternoon (May 6).

The fire service remained at the scene over the weekend and confirmed to Nottinghamshire Live on Monday, May 10, the cause is being deemed as accidental.

Eyewitnesses reported explosions and large plumes of smoke could be seen for miles across Nottinghamshire, with the fumes from a scrap pile still rising on Friday morning, May 7.

Damien West, area manager for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, had said firefighters were faced with a "rapidly developing fire" but that there had been no reported injuries.

Speaking on Friday morning, incident commander and group manager, Phil Revil, said: "The site was working when the fire was observed, there's nothing to suggest it was malicious but we will be working today with our fire investigation team to try and identify the exact cause."
