Firefighters raised concerns that people were ignoring social distance guidelines during a fire that destroyed a school in Long Eaton.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service warned people not to "gather to watch the fire" as firefighters fought through the day to control the flames.
Teachers and staff at Harrington Junior School were evacuated after the fire broke out at about 12noon on Thursday, May 28.
Crews from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire fire services were called to the scene of the fire.
Large plumes of black smoke could be seen across the county as fire crews battled to control the inferno.
Two firefighters were taken to hospital with minor injuries as a result.
Fire crews worked through the night to ensure the blaze was extinguished.
The school has now released a statement revealing that the building could not be saved.
Crowds could be seen to gather near to the fire, with many standing closer than two metres apart.
The fire service warned: "Please follow social distancing advice and don't gather to watch the fire!"
Nottinghamshire Live has contacted Derbyshire Police to find out if any fines were issued.
